Eco Adrenal

The adrenal glands are the 2 walnut sized organs that sit on top of either kidney. Each is actually 2 glands in one. A "gland" is an organ that produces a hormone (A chemical produced one place that has an effect in many other places in the body). One section of the adrenal gland (The medulla) produces epinephrine and norepinephrine-collectively known as "catecholamines". If you've ever been "scared to death", had an anxiety attack or felt angry enough to kill someone, those emotions were underwritten by the production of "catecholamines", also know as "adrenaline". These are your "fight or flight" hormones. These hormones burn fat so it can be turned into energy. They also facilitate the use of sugar as a fuel. This is why they are banned in sports. This is also why many weight loss and energy drugs are patterned after these hormones. Low levels of brain catecholamines can cause depression. Antidepressants such as Effexor and Welbutrin are designed to raise catecholamine levels. Cocaine, amphetamines, ephedra, Adipex,and caffeine are drugs that have an adrenalin type effect. Adrenalin is a reserve hormone that is normally produced in times of acute stress that requires you to fight or run for your life. Modern life can put people in those positions more often than what the adrenal glands were designed to handle-leading to adrenal fatigue.

The second part of the adrenal gland (The cortex) produces cortisol,mineral corticosteroids,and the steroid hormones:
DHEA,progesterone,and estrogens ("Steroid" simply means that the basic building block for the hormone is cholesterol). The steroid hormones are primarily produced by the testicles in men and the ovaries in women. The adrenal cortex is a back-up system for these steroid hormones. The primary hormones of the adrenal cortex are cortisol and mineral corticoids that control fluid/electrolyte balance. Cortisol keeps the immune system from being overly aggressive. The drug prednisone is a synthetic form of cortisol used to suppress the immune system when it becomes over active in "auto immune" diseases such as asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases where there is chronic inflammation (immune system activation). Cortisol also facilitates thyroid hormone function. If cortisol production is low, thyroid hormone replacement will not be as effective and may even be counter productive. Cortisol controls many other functions and is a building block for mineral corticosteroids that control fluid/electrolyte balance. If you have the symptoms below, you may not be producing enough adrenal hormones-adrenal fatigue-and need an adrenal supplement.
